Gurbangeldy Garlyyev graduated in 2001 from the Turkmen Polytechnic Institute with a degree in Development and Operation of Oil and Gas Fields, qualifying as a Mining Engineer. He began his career as an operator at the gas preparation and transportation workshop of the “Korpeje” Gas Production Department of the State Concern Turkmennebit, where he worked in various positions from August 2001 to March 2006. From March 2006 to October 2015, he held various positions at the central office of Turkmennebit. Between October 2015 and April 2016, he served as a chief specialist at the Cabinet of Ministers of Turkmenistan, and from April to July 2016, he was Deputy Head of the State Agency for the Management and Use of Hydrocarbon Resources under the President of Turkmenistan. From August 2016 to August 2023, he headed a department within the Cabinet of Ministers of Turkmenistan. On August 31, 2023, by Presidential Decree, he was appointed Chairman of the State Corporation Turkmengeology.
