Dmitry Shlapachenko has over 21 years of experience with the United Nations (UNDP, DPKO, DPA), serving both at Headquarters and in field missions. He led teams for the Horn of Africa and UNITAMS backstopping in DPPA-DPO. His assignments included Tajikistan, Kosovo, New York, Vienna, Iraq, and Somalia, covering areas such as development, socio-economic issues, civil affairs, constitution-making, strategic planning, UN coordination, minority rights, and political affairs. Before joining the UN in 1999, he worked with the US Peace Corps, the OSCE, and contributed extensively to leading Ukrainian publications on international politics. He holds a PhD in International Relations from Kyiv University, a Master’s in International Relations from the London School of Economics, Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in International Journalism from Kyiv University, a Master’s in Political Science from Central European University in Budapest, and completed a one-year fellowship in International Journalism and Public Policy at Duke University (USA).
