In recent years, the trade turnover between Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan has increased several times and exceeded 1 billion US dollars. According to the results of negotiations between the National Leader of the Turkmen People, Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, and the President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev, the parties agreed to raise this figure to 2 billion dollars and also consider the prospect of increasing the volume to 5 billion dollars. Energy remains one of the key areas of cooperation. In recent years, a major project in the gas sector has been implemented — the Turkmenistan–Uzbekistan–Kazakhstan–China gas pipeline. An important element of partnership is transport. The countries are working on integrating the transport systems of Central Asia, China, Europe, the Middle East, and Near East. Business communities of Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan hold joint forums and exhibitions; regional contacts have been established, including cooperation between Lebap Province and Bukhara, and between Dashoguz Province and Khorezm. The opening of the “Dashoguz — Shabat” checkpoint and a border trade zone is planned. Within the framework of the UN Conference on Landlocked Developing Countries held in Awaza, a trilateral meeting was held with the participation of Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, Shavkat Mirziyoyev, and Azerbaijani Prime Minister Ali Asadov. Prospects for industrial cooperation were discussed, including in the fuel and energy complex, as well as the development of transport and logistics links along the East–West and North–South corridors using the capabilities of the Turkmenbashi International Seaport. On August 5, Turkmenistan’s President Serdar Berdimuhamedov met with Mirziyoyev, emphasizing that relations with Uzbekistan are a priority of foreign policy and are built on a solid foundation of friendship and political will. The partnership covers agriculture, electric power, oil and gas, chemical industry, and other sectors. In 2022, the countries adopted a Program for Trade-Economic Cooperation and Industrial Cooperation for 2022–2025.
